Classic Vintage Wooden Gentleman’s Motor Yacht 1936

| Classic | September 28, 2011

A very, very reluctant sale due to business comittments. Grey Pearl was built in 1936 as a Gentleman’s Motor Yacht. She was built on the Thames at Isleworth by Watercraft as a river and off shore cruiser. As a single screw motor launch with long keel, round bilge and a very rare canoe stern she is constructed of 7/8th mahogany planking over oak frames. Her dimensions are 28ft 3 inches in length, 8ft 9 inches in beam and 4 ft 9 inches in draught. She has two masts fitted securely by tabernacle fittings. The mizzen mast is secured on deck with a sail stowed below. Grey Pearl is in very good condition. We have a very thorough survey dated 10th April 2008 carried out by John Merrett Marine Services. As you can see from the photographs taken in April this year, she has completely antifouled and repainted with all works attended to, she also has a new Boat Safety Certificate valid until 2014. We have the original Lloyds register, official number 180894, dating from the early 1946 which gives an interesting history to the boat and showing all the changes of ownership until the late 50s and has led us to register our interest with DLSA. Previous to our ownership the ship was owned by a marine engineer and shipwright for 34 years and moored at Plymouth which has ensured that she has been well maintained and why she is such good condition. She is now back on the Thames and moored above the Henley reach. This year she has been cruised extensively on the upper and lower Thames and has proven to be a wonderful family boat with the rear cabin and the saloon converting to an eight foot double bed. The mahogany saloon has seen many dinner parties and has also been used as my office on occasion with the large plan table opening up to be a useful desk. The engine is a Newage / BMC 3.8 diesel engine, type Commodore developing 70HP and turning at 8 knots which has been serviced every year with a new alternator fitted this season. The wheelhouse completely rebuilt in 2009 whilst retaining the original roof section from 1936. Electronic equipment on board features 3 x heavy duty 12v batteries, lighting, pumped water, stereo Navigation equipment includes Garmin 182 C Chart Plotter, Icom VHF radio and Stowe Echo Sounder. Domestic equipment includes Jabso Marine Toilet (currently disconnected), portable toilet, two burner grill and oven with gas connections, a Taylors diesel fired cabin heater and electric fridge. There is an extensive inventory on board including ropes, fenders, life jackets and much much more, all to be included in the sale. This really is a heart breaking sale, but needs must, I only wish she goes to a good home. A quick sale is required which is why it is on e bay, but all viewings are welcome and she is very definitely for sale to the right person before the auction ends. Please, only serious bidders or enquiries. The boat will only be released on receipt and clearance of funds. Buyers with a feedback of less than ten please contact me before bidding. She is for sale elsewhere and may be sold prior to auction end. Best of Luck.
